Remember the perspex glasses you had to wear in school science lessons?
The ones that never quite fit the width of your face? The ones that made you look like the dweebiest of dweebs? The ones classmates would tease you for wearing, even though they were probably wearing them too?
Well, look who’s laughing now, as one trendy LA fashion brand is sending us right back to chemistry class by selling safety goggles for $25 (£17).
avoured by the likes of Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid, Brashy Studios is known for its contemporary streetwear and urban aesthetic – but lab-appropriate eyewear is arguably taking things to the next level.
Exactly what savvy fashionistas need safety from, we’re not entirely sure.
Could it be that they ease the pain of witnessing a fashion crime unfold before your eyes i.e. seeing a gentleman donning socks with sandals?
Or perhaps they protect against the glare of fluorescent clothing, which is seldom acceptable to be worn or seen outside of an Ibizan rave, or a UV shop in Camden market.
Whatever Brashy Studios’ intentions, we suspect it won’t be long till a slew of trendsetting celebrities start parading around in lab-inspired eyewear, with fashion magazines labelling the look “subversive”.
At least their eyes will be protected from harmful chemical compounds and, erm, flying things…
For those looking to “get the look” without the $25 price tag, you can purchase a very similar pair of the practical glasses at a number of DIY outlets – B&Q sell clear and amber-tinted variations for £3.
You know what they say, safety first.
